East Riding of Yorkshire Council can confirm that 30 units at Lakeminster Park have either been removed from the site, have been permanently vacated or will be vacated imminently in compliance with the planning enforcement notice.
In September 2014, independent planning inspector, Diane Lewis, refused retrospective planning permission for the change of use of 73 existing park homes for permanent residential occupation at Lakeminster Park, near Beverley, and upheld the associated planning enforcement notice.
In summing up her decision, Ms Lewis said the park home development was not in a location that complied with planning policies and involved a fundamental conflict with them. She found that the refusal of planning permission by the council was “necessary and proportionate in the public interest and no violation against residents’ human rights would result”.
From the day the decision was made (5 September 2014), occupants on the site have 18 months to comply with the planning enforcement notice issued by the council. Since then, some occupants have made their own private accommodation arrangements, but the majority of those re-homed have done so through support offered by the council’s housing services, confirming the evidence the authority gave to the planning inspector.
Pete Ashcroft, head of planning and development management at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council understands the difficulties being faced by the occupants of Lakeminster Park, but is encouraged that so many have already complied with the enforcement notice and well ahead of the deadline of March 2016.
“Residents continue to engage with the council’s housing services and will be supported by the council in doing so.
“We understand the concerns of those living on the park and, if they have not yet done so, we would strongly advise them to seek independent legal advice on this decision and what options are now open to them.”
